Sound Barrier is proud to introduce the VERA C48, a professional 4-input / 8-output FIR loudspeaker management processor designed for today’s touring systems, performance venues, houses of worship, theaters, clubs, and fixed installations. Housed in a compact 1U chassis, the VERA C48 gives system engineers and integrators the processing depth, control flexibility, and dependable loudspeaker protection needed to build systems that perform consistently from one deployment to the next.
The VERA C48 represents the next generation of Sound Barrier system processing and a substantial step forward from the SBDP48A. While the SBDP48A established a capable platform for routing, crossover control, EQ, delay, and system protection, the VERA C48 brings a higher-resolution 96 kHz processing architecture, expanded FIR capability, more advanced dynamics and EQ, secure speaker libraries, source redundancy, and a far more connected software workflow.
The C48 is also the first of several professional processors planned for the growing VERA family. It establishes the foundation for a broader Sound Barrier processing platform, with the VERA C48D planned as a near-future addition. The C48D will be a distinct, higher-spec networked processor, built with standard Dante/AES67 audio networking for applications that need integrated network audio and expanded digital system control.
At its core is a 32-bit floating-point DSP platform with 24-bit A/D and D/A conversion, four balanced XLR inputs, eight balanced XLR outputs, and four channels of AES/EBU digital input. The processor provides the tools needed to shape and protect a complete loudspeaker system with exceptional precision. Each input includes source priority, gate, compressor, expander, 15-band parametric EQ, high-pass and low-pass filters, 3-band dynamic EQ, delay, and FIR processing. On the output side, engineers can apply gain, polarity, mute, 10-band EQ, delay, and a dedicated speaker-processing section with FIR, crossover filters, 15-band EQ, dynamic EQ, compressor, and limiter protection.
FIR processing is a central part of the VERA C48 design. With four 1,280-tap input FIR filters and eight 2,048-tap speaker-output FIR filters, the processor provides the capacity to apply more accurate magnitude and phase correction where it matters most. Integrated FIR Designer tools help users create and manage FIR filters as part of their system-tuning workflow, supporting clearer alignment and more consistent performance across complex loudspeaker systems.
Reliability was designed into every stage of the signal path. The VERA C48 can assign one primary source and two backup sources to each input channel, automatically switching according to priority when a source is lost. This provides an added layer of continuity for professional applications where a failed source should not interrupt the program. Long delay capability of up to 2,000 ms per stage, with 0.01 ms resolution, also gives system engineers the flexibility required for delay towers, distributed systems, and detailed alignment work.
The VERA C48 is equally focused on everyday usability. Its dual color IPS displays and front-panel controls allow direct adjustment at the rack, while MConsole 3.0 software gives users a more complete control environment over USB, Ethernet, or serial connection. Engineers can edit systems offline, copy parameters across devices, link channels, manage multiple processors through TCP/IP, and save configurations for repeatable deployment. Integrated WebCon browser control also allows access through a standard web browser, bringing another convenient layer of control to installed and mobile systems.
For installers, rental companies, and system operators, the processor’s preset workflow helps protect the work that goes into a finished system. The VERA C48 stores 79 device presets and supports a protected speaker library with capacity for up to 1,024 model-specific presets. Speaker presets can be imported, exported, and locked to help ensure the correct crossover points, EQ, delay, and limiter settings stay with the loudspeaker system they were built for. Password-protected panel, preset, and speaker-preset locks help prevent unauthorized changes after commissioning.
The VERA C48 is more than a new processor. It reflects Sound Barrier’s ongoing commitment to continually improve our product line with better technology, more practical features, and tools that help our customers get more from every system they deploy. As the demands on professional audio systems keep evolving, we are committed to delivering products that provide real value in the field: stronger control, better protection, more flexible connectivity, and a workflow that respects the time and expertise of the people operating the system.
With the VERA C48, Sound Barrier is giving audio professionals a modern, high-performance platform for managing loudspeaker systems with confidence. It is the next step forward from the SBDP48A and the first chapter of a growing VERA processor family built around precision, protection, and
